Metro Intruder Resistant Glass is suitable for residential, commercial, retail and institutional projects requiring increased resistance to forced entry through glazing.

The product should be specified as part of a complete security glazing system. The glass, framing, beads, seals, fixings, hardware and supporting structure should provide a coordinated level of resistance appropriate to the project’s risk assessment.

• Intruder Resistant Glass is designed to delay forced entry. It must not be described as unbreakable, burglar-proof or penetration-proof.
• The published attack times are indicative and do not guarantee the same performance in every installation or attack scenario.
• Actual performance depends on the panel dimensions, glass make-up, containment method, frame rigidity, glazing beads, fixings, installation and tools or force used during an attack.
• Testing under AS 3555.1 is performance-based, and outcomes can vary according to the strength and stamina of the person conducting the test and the complete test arrangement.
• Project specific mock up testing is recommended where a defined security rating or verified installed system performance is required.
• The framing, hardware and supporting structure must provide resistance compatible with the selected glass.
• Specifying resistant glass within a standard or weak frame may not provide the required system performance.
• Incorporation into an insulating glass unit depends on the available glazing pocket, total unit thickness and frame capacity.
• Glass thickness and make up must be selected for the panel dimensions, wind pressure, human impact and structural requirements.
• Intruder Resistant Glass is not automatically suitable for ballistic, blast, cyclone, fire-resistant, prison cell or high security applications.
• Applications protecting a fall require separate barrier design and verification.
• The product must be installed in accordance with Metro’s glazing requirements and the approved project documentation.
• AS 3555.1 is not cited by the New Zealand Building Code. Metro advises that the producer-statement process is therefore not applicable to the product’s intruder-resistance rating.

When correctly selected, manufactured and installed as part of an appropriately designed glazing system, Metro Intruder Resistant Glass complies with or can contribute to compliance with relevant provisions of the New Zealand Building Code, including:B1 Structure

Building Code compliance must be assessed separately from intruder-resistance performance. AS 3555.1 is not cited by the New Zealand Building Code, so an AS 3555.1 attack rating does not itself demonstrate Building Code compliance or provide a producer statement pathway.

Compliance depends on the complete installed system, including the laminated glass, framing, beads, seals, hardware, fixings, supporting structure and building interfaces.

• Laminated construction helps retain broken glass following impact
• Provides greater resistance to penetration than standard annealed or basic laminated safety glass
• Maintains a physical barrier for longer under repeated impact, subject to the complete installed system
• Can be combined with compatible LowE glass in an insulating glass unit, subject to thickness and framing constraints
• Safety-glass components are manufactured in accordance with applicable AS/NZS 2208 requirements
• Laminated-glass processing is undertaken with reference to AS/NZS 4667
• Glass selection and installation are undertaken with reference to the applicable requirements of NZS 4223
• Final performance depends on the glass make up, panel size, frame, containment method, fixings and installation
• Project-specific mock up testing can be used to validate the complete system where required

Warranty & Maintenance

• Warranty coverage is subject to Metro’s applicable laminated and specialist security glass warranty terms.
• A 10 year double glazing warranty may apply only where Intruder Resistant Glass is incorporated into a qualifying Metro insulating glass unit. It should not be represented as a blanket warranty for the single-glazed security product.
• Refer to the attached Metro Performance Glass warranty documentation for coverage, exclusions and claim requirements.
• Maintain in accordance with the Metro Performance Glass care and maintenance guide.
• Regularly inspect the glass, framing, glazing beads, fixings, locks and associated hardware.
• Keep exposed laminated-glass edges protected from standing water, incompatible sealants and harsh chemicals.
• Do not drill, cut, notch or otherwise modify the glass after manufacture.
• Do not use abrasive cleaners, metal scrapers or tools that may scratch or damage the glass.
• Any damaged glass, displaced framing or deterioration of security hardware should be assessed promptly by a suitably qualified glazing professional.
• Warranty coverage for the glass does not replace inspection and maintenance requirements for the complete security glazing system.
