SPS Push-in Floor Drains
Description

Metabronze, through its SPS brand, provides a comprehensive selection of floor drains suitable for commercial, industrial, and residential applications across a wide range of flooring types, including paved, cement topping, epoxy, and tiled surfaces.

SPS floor drains are engineered for interior and exterior use. They are commonly installed in housing developments, public facilities, hotels, restaurants, schools, retail spaces, podium areas, factories, and processing plants.

These drains are designed for high usage and durability. They offer superior water flow capacity, robust strength, and resistance to chemicals and heavy loads, making them ideal for demanding environments.

Scope of Use
  • SPS floor drain bodies are manufactured from premium 304 stainless steel and cast iron, ensuring exceptional durability and corrosion resistance for indoor and outdoor environments. Grates are available in 304 & 316 stainless steel and nickel bronze, providing a polished or satin finish, and superior resistance to pedestrian and vehicle traffic, chemical exposure, and harsh weather.
  • Options include round and square profiles, with load-bearing and heel-friendly designs to meet safety and operational needs.
  • All floor drains feature O-ring seals on the spigot for a secure, push-in connection to PVC pipes. O-ring sizings for 100mm and 150mm outlets also allow compatibility with HDPE and copper pipes.
  • SPS floor drains with low-profile retrofit puddle flanges are specifically designed for hard flooring surfaces requiring waterproofing, such as tiled floors in wet areas, cement toppings or screeds over structural slabs, and epoxy flooring in commercial or industrial settings. These flanges are suitable for new builds and refurbishments where a waterproof membrane is present or must be retrofitted.
  • Height-adjustable assemblies are recommended for tiled floors, where variable tile and adhesive thicknesses make final floor heights difficult to predict until later in the  installation stage. Paved, screeded, epoxy, or resin floors- where surface build-up can vary- also benefit from on-site adjustment to provide an installation flush with the flooring surface.
  • The larger SPS floor drains, which are designed to handle higher volumes of surface water, boast 200mm–300mm diameter grates in 316 stainless steel or bronze, with cast iron or stainless-steel bodies. Several models are load-tested to Class C, making them suitable for areas exposed to cars, forklifts, service vehicles, and light trucks in industrial and commercial settings.
  • For commercial locations such as restaurants, schools, and retail spaces, where waste volumes and loads may be lighter, our 100mm–200mm diameter grates with smaller outlets are ideal. Many of these models feature heel-friendly grates and can still meet Class C load requirements.
  • SPS also offers compact floor drains with lighter construction and smaller grates that are better suited for confined spaces or areas limited to pedestrian traffic.

Product Size:

  • Pipe Suitability: 50mm, 80mm, 100mm, 150mm
  • Grate Size: 100mm, 110mm, 130mm, 150mm, 160mm, 200mm, 225mm, 300mm
  • Spigot and O-ring design (100mm & 150mm) allows for compatibility with PVC, HDPE, cast iron and Copper Pipe.
Limitations on Use
  • The design of the floor drain must match the projected water volume. Improper sizing can cause overflow or inefficiency.
  • Floor drains can become blocked with dirt, hair and debris, leading to slow drainage and blockages.
  • Lack of cleaning can cause issues like odours or clogging.

Installation Requirements

  • Select a drain that is compatible with the expected environment, considering factors such as an internal or external location, pedestrian & vehicle traffic, and the projected volume of water present on the floor or podium area at any one time. Other considerations include aesthetic appeal, and the amount of fall, if any.
  • Ensure the surface is adequately cured, smooth and free of debris that may interfere with installation.
  • Consider height-adjustable drain components with finished surfaces such as tiles, pavers, and cement toppings.
  • Match the drain O-ring material with the pipe material (i.e. PVC, HDPE, or Copper) to ensure compatibility and the prevention of leaks.
  • Position the drain at the lowest point on the floor for optimal drainage, or ensure the floor has the correct fall when it is being set.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Building and Plumbing Standards.
  • Refer to product datasheet.

Maintenance & Prevention Measures

  • Clean floor drains every 4-6 months. Drains should be free of debris and dirt that can cause blockages. If practically possible, avoid corrosive chemicals when cleaning. Using a natural solution will eliminate staining.
  • Inspect annually for blockages, ponding water, or damage. Clear debris, such as leaves and dirt to prevent clogs.
  • Flushing with hot water periodically removes buildup and will assist with preventing the growth of organic matter.
  • Do not use a wire brush on the grate as it will damage the surface.
  • Hire experts for high-pressure or complex cleaning tasks.
  • Conduct annual inspections by professionals to identify hidden issues.
Statement of Building Code Compliance

SPS floor drains meet the mandatory objectives and performance criteria of NZBC Clauses G13 and E1 by providing durable, watertight, and maintainable drainage solutions that protect buildings and occupants from the risks associated with foul and surface water.

SPS Drain and Cleanout Products are developed for the Plumbing and Drainage Industry and to the Australia/New Zealand Standard AS/NZ 3500.2.2

SPS floor drains are designed and manufactured to comply with the relevant requirements of the New Zealand Building Code, specifically Clauses G13 (Foul Water) and E1 (Surface Water).

Compliance with G13 (Foul Water)

  • Conveyance and Prevention of Blockage/Leakage: SPS floor drains are constructed to efficiently convey foul water from buildings to the drainage system, reducing the risk of blockages and leaks through robust design and quality materials.
  • Durability and Corrosion Resistance: Fabrication from stainless steel, bronze and cast iron ensures long-term durability and protection against corrosion, which aligns with the requirement to avoid damage from superimposed loads and ground movement.
  • Watertight Connections: All SPS floor drains feature ‘O’ ring seals and compatible fittings, ensuring watertight joints and preventing the ingress of groundwater or surface water into the drainage system.
  • Access for Maintenance: The designs, inclusive of hinged and fastened grates allows for reasonable access to maintain and clear blockages, as required by G13.
  • Integration with Waterproofing: Options such as puddle flanges enable integration with waterproof membranes, preventing leakage into building structures and adjoining properties.

Compliance with E1 (Surface Water)

  • Efficient Surface Water Disposal: SPS floor drains are engineered to collect and dispose of surface water efficiently, protecting property from the adverse effects of surface water as required by E1.
  • Gravity Drainage and Avoidance of Blockages: The drains are designed for gravity flow and to minimize the likelihood of blockages and leakage, in line with E1 performance requirements.
  • Prevention of Water Ingress: When the correct drain for the location is installed with appropriate waterproofing systems, SPS drains help ensure that surface water does not enter buildings during significant rainfall events, as stipulated by E1.3.2.
  • Compatibility with Impervious Floor Coverings: SPS drains are suitable for use with impervious floor coverings and waterproof membranes, supporting compliance with E1 and G13 in wet areas such as bathrooms, laundries, and kitchens.
