The 304 grade stainless steel is strong and versatile and is used primarily within buildings where the environment is controlled.  316 stainless steel Cleanouts offers enhanced corrosion resistance, making it ideal for harsh climates, marine environments, and hygiene-critical environments like clinical institutions.

This range caters for internal hard floor surfaces, cement topping, epoxy flooring, tile, and vinyl with a clamp ring, with options for a height adjustable assembly and membrane flange fitting.

Applications

Cleanout and inspection points are mostly used wherever there is a need for reliable, accessible maintenance of drainage systems, especially in and around commercial buildings, public facilities, and areas with specialised flooring.

Typically cleanouts are used in the following locations:

  • Commercial Buildings: Cleanouts are widely used in areas with sheet vinyl flooring, such as hospitals, commercial kitchens, laundries, and utility rooms. These environments require durable, hygienic, and accessible drainage inspection points to meet health and safety standards.
  • Bathrooms and Wet Areas: In both residential and commercial settings, cleanouts are installed in bathrooms, laundries, and other wet areas to allow for easy access to drainage pipes for cleaning and inspection purposes.
  • Public Facilities: Facilities like hospitals, stadiums, correctional centers, and aged care homes frequently use robust, tamper-resistant cleanout products to ensure reliable drainage system maintenance and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Near Waste Water Connections; Typically located outside buildings, such as in yards, podium areas, paths to access connecting sewer connections.

Specialised Performance

  • The highest grade non-slip, design, and sand-blast finish lid surface ensures superior slip resistance.
  • Polished, brushed, and satin stainless steel lid finishes offer modern, aesthetically pleasing finishes.
  • Height adjustable assemblies offer installation flexibility and enhanced waterproofing.
  • The SPS Cleanout, designed with a lever point for easy lid removal and free of fasteners, enhances cleanliness in laboratory and surgical environments.
  • Metabronze offers unique 316 grade stainless steel cleanouts in 100mm, 150mm and 225mm sizes, featuring non-slip lids and rated Class C for 150mm and Class D for 100mm and 225mm weight bearing capacity.
  • Tamper Proof screws are available for enhanced security.
Limitations on Use
  • Cleaning eyes must remain unobstructed
  • Poor lighting, improper viewing angles, or residue build-up can hinder visual inspections.
  • Improper installation, such as incorrect placement or sealing of the lid can reduce the effectiveness of cleaning eyes.
  • Harsh environmental conditions can damage cleaning eyes over time.
  • Lack of training or incorrect use of equipment can result in an incomplete inspection or less than adequate cleanliness.

Installation Requirements:

  • Use a Cleaning eye made from high-grade stainless steel or bronze for corrosion resistance and longevity.
  • For pedestrian precincts, consider an anti-slip design for the lid surface.
  • Install at strategic points, typically every 15-25 metres along pipe runs, as well as at changes in direction and in restricted access areas.
  • Ensure the Cleaning Eye cover has a gasket or O-ring to maintain an airtight seal.
  • Ensure compliance with all Building and Plumbing Standards.
  • Refer to Datasheet

Maintenance & Prevention Measures:

  • Cleaning Eyes should be easily accessible and kept in good repair to ensure functionality.
  • The use of tamper-proof screws will provide security for the product and the pipe system.
  • Regularly inspect cleaning eyes for blockages, leaks, or damage.
  • Use a torch or drain camera for a thorough inspection of pipes and drain rods or high-pressure hoses to remove blockages.
  • Maintain records of inspections and cleaning activities to track maintenance schedules and identify recurring issues.
Statement of Building Code Compliance

SPS Cleanouts are fully compliant with NZBC Clause G13 by providing accessible, durable, and safe points for maintenance within foul water drainage systems, as required for the health, safety, and amenity of building occupants.

Clause G13 requires that plumbing and drainage systems are designed and constructed to:

  • Convey foul water efficiently to an appropriate outfall.
  • Avoid the likelihood of blockages, leakage, and the entry of foul air or gases into buildings.
  • Provide reasonable access for maintenance and clearing blockages.

How SPS Cleanouts Meet G13 Requirements:

  • Access for Maintenance: SPS Cleanouts are specifically designed to provide reasonable access for maintenance and clearing blockages, as required by G13.3.1(d) and G13.3.2(d). This ensures that any build-up or obstruction in the drainage system can be promptly and effectively addressed, preventing system failure and maintaining sanitary conditions.
  • Material and Construction: The cleanouts are constructed from impervious materials, which prevents leakage and contamination, meeting the performance requirements of G13.3.1(b) and G13.3.2(c). The robust construction also resists damage from superimposed loads or ground movement, as stipulated in G13.3.2(f).
  • Odour and Safety: By enabling efficient maintenance, SPS Cleanouts help avoid the accumulation of offensive matter and the emission of foul air, thereby safeguarding building occupants from unpleasant odours and potential health risks, in line with the objectives of G13.1 and performance requirements G13.3.1(c).
  • Alignment with Acceptable Solutions: The design and installation of SPS Clean Outs follow Acceptable Solutions such as G13/AS2, which provides detailed requirements for below-ground drainage and access points. Compliance with these solutions is recognised as a means of meeting the NZBC performance criteria.

Note: Compliance is contingent upon correct selection of the drain outlet size, the number of outlet drains provided for use, and the correct installation process.
