Heatwood Engineered Flooring
Description

Heatwood Engineered Flooring is a multi-layer timber flooring system comprising a 2mm premium solid wood top layer over a patented composite core manufactured from recycled wood pulp and stone. LMA supplies Australian hardwoods including Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, Ironbark, and Tallowwood. The composite core provides thermal conductivity similar to ceramic tiles or cement, enabling the boards to effectively transfer heat without the risk of shrinkage, making the system suitable for installation over underfloor heating.

Designed for interior commercial and residential applications, the 15x190mm planks feature a 4-sided tongue and groove profile to accommodate various layout patterns and styles. The factory surface is protected with 11 coats of a UV diamond technology finish.

Key Features
  • Hard-wearing surface protected by 11 coats of UV diamond technology finish, providing up to 10 times greater durability than standard flooring systems in wear testing.
  • Engineered composite base offers thermal conductivity comparable to tile or concrete for efficient heat transfer and dimensional stability over underfloor heating.
  • Australian hardwoods including Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, Ironbark, and Tallowwood.
  • High moisture resistance that minimises board expansion and swelling compared to traditional timber.
  • Sustainable construction utilising over 75% renewable resources and 90% less solid wood than traditional timber flooring.
  • Simplified installation using a bed of specialised One-Step Adhesive directly over concrete subfloors without requiring a separate physical moisture barrier or acoustic rubber matting.

Scope of Use
  • Recommended for interior flooring applications in residential and commercial buildings — commonly used in kitchens, dining areas, hallways, and commercial settings
  • Suitable for use over heated subfloors due to thermal transfer efficiency and resistance to heat-induced shrinkage.
  • Suitable for concrete subfloor installations when installed using the proprietary One-Step Adhesive system.
  • Choosing a durable species like Spotted Gum or Ironbark will help the floor withstand everyday wear. LMA can recommend prefinished boards and hard-wearing coatings for projects involving high-traffic zones.
Limitations on Use
  • Not suitable for exterior applications.
  • Must not be used where C3.4 (b) applies.
  • Not a waterproof product; standing water must not be left on the floor as it can alter the structural integrity and cause timber darkening.
  • Installation in wet areas or areas subject to high moisture content or water splash is not recommended.
  • Not suitable for cleaning with steam mops, industrial cleaning machinery, harsh household detergents, abrasive pads, or solvent and petroleum-based products.
Statement of Building Code Compliance
  • B1 STRUCTURE B1.3.1, B1.3.2, B1.3.3 (a, j, q), B1.3.4 — Alternative Solution: Physical characteristics of hardness, toughness, shrinkage and tangential movement [Timber Queensland, 03/2014].
  • B2 DURABILITY B2.3.1(c) — Alternative Solution: Class 1, 2 and 3 durability to AS 5604-2005 [Timber Queensland, 03/2014].
  • F2 HAZARDOUS BUILDING MATERIALS F2.3.1
Other Performance Attributes
  • Refinishable solid wood top layer capable of being re-sanded and recoated by a flooring professional.
  • Core material composed of recycled wood pulp and stone.
  • Australian hardwood timbers are classified as Class 1 (40 year plus) natural durability under AS 5604-2005.

Sustainably Sourced Hardwood & Carbon Sequestration

Sustainable timber is sourced from responsibly managed forests, where harvesting is done in a manner that ensures ongoing replenishment without causing harm to the surrounding environment, including native flora and fauna. LMA Timber do not source from tropical rainforests such as those in Indonesia and the Amazon.

Not only is hardwood more durable but is also far superior when it comes to carbon sequestration compared to most other timber options
available in New Zealand.
