Dulux Concrete & Paving Bare Concrete Etch & Clean prepares bare concrete for priming by removing the laitance layer and roughening the surface to allow for optimum adhesion of the primer. The 2 in 1 Etch & Clean solution also cleans and decontaminates the surface.
Use on all new and old bare concrete. Only use on surfaces that you can power wash to allow for a thorough rinse off of the product.
Do Not apply to pavement surfaces that have a gradient greater than 1:8 or slope of 7 degrees.
For surfaces greater than 1:8 or 7 degrees please refer to Dulux Help and Advice for assistance.
To achieve optimal results when applying a coating to a surface, it is essential to prepare the surface appropriately. We recommend using Dulux Concrete & Paving Bare Concrete Etch & Clean (52ZD0198) along with a power washer that has a minimum pressure rating of 1200PSI and a heavy-duty bristle brush. This will ensure a thorough cleaning the surface, which is crucial step in preparing it for coating application.
New Concrete: For newly poured concrete, it is recommended to allow a minimum of 4 weeks for proper curing before proceeding with surface preparation and painting. The curing process is a crucial stage in concrete development, where the concrete gains strength and durability over time. Failure to allow sufficient curing time can result in a weak and porous concrete surface, leading to adhesion issues and premature coating failure. Additionally, if the concrete is not fully cured, moisture can still be present within the surface, which can cause problems with coating adhesion and result in bubbling, blistering, or peeling of the coating.
For 85 years Dulux has helped protect, maintain and enhance the spaces and places where Kiwis live, work and play, creating better homes and improving infrastructure across New Zealand.
