Sustainable Natural Oak Flooring Designed to Last Decades

Marchand is on a mission to bring sustainable, durable timber flooring back to Kiwi homes; the kind of flooring that will last decades, not just years.

“Our mission at Marchand is bringing the quality of housing back,” says Julia Christie, Director, Marchand. “Sustainability is one of the things we want to be strong in, helping to move that dial when people are making decisions and thinking about carbon.”

Marchand’s sustainability efforts begin with the longevity of their product — a beautiful engineered oak flooring that is 20mm thick, with a 6mm solid European oak top layer, and a protective lacquer, designed to handle the rigours of busy Kiwi lives — children, pets and all.

They’ve then taken extra steps, obtaining FSC Chain of Custody certification, an EPD and VOC testing, all to give architects and their clients peace of mind that they are choosing safe, sustainable flooring.

100% Sustainably sourced timber — backed by FSC Chain of Custody certification

100% of the timber used in Marchand flooring (both the ply substrate and oak top layer) adheres to the stringent standards of FSC Chain of Custody certification. By specifying timber that has been consciously farmed, sourced and milled from sustainable FSC-certified forests, architects can play their part in ensuring the health and productivity of forests for generations to come.

Fully transparent environmental impact with a third-party verified EPD

As clients become more eco-conscious, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) offer a trusted, transparent source of carbon information. Marchand is currently the only oak flooring supplier in New Zealand to have an EPD — outlining the life cycle impact of their oak flooring from cradle to grave

The EPD provides comprehensive verified data on the carbon footprint of Marchand Oak Flooring including the origin of the raw materials (sourced from FSC-certified forests), energy used during manufacturing and transport, and waste produced at the factory (no wastewater is generated, sawdust byproduct is sold). This gives architects and their clients transparent information to help them make informed, environmentally-conscious choices.

Low VOC emissions for healthy indoor air quality

Both architects and their clients are becoming more mindful of how different building materials can impact health and wellbeing. Marchand has undergone independent laboratory testing for their engineered oak flooring systems. The test results offer peace of mind, demonstrating that Marchand flooring is a low VOC option, and compliant with the requirements of the CDPH/EHLB Standard Method V1.2 for VOC emissions.
