Magna GL17 laminated beams and posts are intended for use:

• In light timber-framed construction
• In structural and decorative applications, including beams, posts, rafters and lintels
• In locations subject to specific engineering design or where selected from Magna engineered span tables
• In buildings where the relevant part of the building complies with the NZ Building Code
• In existing buildings where the designer or engineer is satisfied that the existing building is suitable for the intended purpose
• With fixing materials in accordance with NZS 3604:2011, section 4.0
• Where specific fire performance is required, when specified in conjunction with a Fire Engineer.

• Magna GL17 beams and posts must be specifically engineered or selected from the Magna engineered span tables.
• Where specific fire performance is required, the beams must be specified in conjunction with a Fire Engineer.
• Specification and installation must be carried out by, or supervised by, a Licensed Building Practitioner with the relevant licence class and access to all relevant technical documentation.
• Beams must be stored, handled, maintained and installed in accordance with Magna requirements.
• GL17 products are not considered suitable for extreme weather areas such as ski resorts or dry desert areas.
• Merbau/Kwila is prone to tannin bleed when exposed to water and should be kept dry prior to coating with a suitable oil or paint.

When designed, installed and maintained in accordance with Magna requirements, Magna Glulam will comply with or contribute to compliance with the following NZ Building Code provisions:

• B1 Structure: B1.3.1 and B1.3.2, B1/VM1
• B2 Durability: B2.3.2(a)
• C6 Structural Stability: C6.2(a) and C6.3, B1/VM1

Magna Glulam is third-party certified by the Glue Laminated Timber Association of Australia (GLTAA) to relevant AS/NZS standards.

• Engineering span tables are prepared to AS/NZS 1170:2002. Magna Glulam is manufactured to AS/NZS 1328:1998 and AS/NZS 8008:2022.
• Durability performance is supported by independent assessment of the Class 2 timber species by Scion, dated 8 September 2021 and 31 January 2024, including consideration of in-service history, laboratory testing and comparable performance of similar building elements.
• Fire resistance design is referenced to AS/NZS 1720.1:2010 and NZS 3603:1993 Section 9.
• Magna Merbau is Natural Durability Class 1 above ground (40+ year life) in accordance with AS 5604 and is suitable for Service Class 3 fully exposed situations, subject to the stated limitations. The product is manufactured using PRF A-bond adhesive and is resistant to termite attack. 
• Kiln dried to 12–16% moisture content
