Description

Magna GL13 laminated beams and posts are structural and decorative building elements manufactured from kiln-dried Merbau, also known as Kwila. The range includes GL13 laminated beams, rafters and lintels for light timber-framed construction, together with Appearance A-grade laminated posts suitable for external structural applications, joinery and furniture.

Available as 140 x 140mm and 190 x 190mm sections
Beam sections available in 240 x 90mm and 290 x 90mm
Available in lengths from 3.6m to 7.2m, depending on section size

Scope of Use

Magna GL13 laminated beams and posts are intended for use:

In light timber-framed construction
In structural and decorative applications, including beams, posts, rafters and lintels
In locations subject to specific engineering design or where selected in accordance with Magna engineered span tables
In buildings where the relevant part of the building complies with the NZ Building Code
In existing buildings where the designer or engineer is satisfied that the existing building is suitable for the intended purpose
With fixing materials in accordance with NZS 3604:2011, section 4.0
With fabricated connections in accordance with the requirements stated in Magna technical documentation
Where specific fire performance is required, when specified in conjunction with a Fire Engineer.
Magna GL13 laminated posts are designed for external structural applications and are also suitable for fine joinery and furniture.
Magna GL13 beams are intended as structural building elements in light timber-framed construction, including applications as rafters and lintels.

Limitations on Use

Magna GL13 beams and posts must be specifically engineered or selected from the Magna engineered span tables.
Where specific fire performance is required, the beams must be specified in conjunction with a Fire Engineer.
Specification and installation must be carried out by, or supervised by, a Licensed Building Practitioner with the relevant licence class and access to the relevant technical documentation.
Beams must be stored, handled, maintained and installed in accordance with Magna requirements.
For above-ground applications only; Magna Glulam must not be used in-ground.
Avoid applications where the timber will be subject to prolonged saturation or non-draining horizontal surfaces.
The product should be kept dry before installation and protected with an appropriate coating.
Protective finishes must be maintained to reduce UV and moisture ingress.
Specification and installation must comply with the Magna technical documentation and BPIR requirements.

When designed, installed and maintained in accordance with Magna requirements, Magna Glulam will comply with or contribute to compliance with the following NZ Building Code provisions:

B1 Structure: B1.3.1 and B1.3.2, B1/VM1
B2 Durability: B2.3.2(a)
C6 Structural Stability: C6.2(a) and C6.3, B1/VM1

Magna Glulam is third-party certified by the Glue Laminated Timber Association of Australia (GLTAA) to relevant AS/NZS standards.
