Optimise the Building Envelope with DuPont Tyvek

As building codes became more stringent, the requirements for the building envelope changed. The building envelope must help to improve energy efficiency, improve building durability, protect against mould and its long-term liability issues, and ultimately, help increase the comfort for a building’s occupants.

Tyvek building wrap solutions resist moisture and air, but are highly vapour permeable, to reduce the risk of condensation damage, wood rot or mould growth.

Air penetration resistance

One basic function of a building wrap is to help insulation maintain its R-value by keeping air from leaking through the wall system. The ability of the water-resistive barrier in helping to prevent air infiltration directly relates to the energy costs of heating and cooling a home. The high air resistance level of DuPont Tyvek HomeWrap allows insulation to be more effective, helping to lower energy costs.

Water penetration resistance and vapour permeability

Water resistance and high drying potential are key components for creating the optimal wall system. DuPont Tyvek HomeWrap has a high level of water resistance to help protect the wall cavity from water that gets behind the cladding.

A building wrap should also have a high perm rating so that the natural ability of a wall system to dry out is not impeded. The excellent moisture vapour permeability of DuPont Tyvek HomeWrap helps prevent moisture accumulation in walls which can lead to the formation of mould, mildew and wood rot.
