High Performing Dupont Tyvek System Protects Enclosure of 28 Unit Development

Choosing DuPont Tyvek on a 28 unit housing development in St Heliers was easy for PHI Construction.

Steve Palmer, of PHI Construction said, "We wanted to choose a building wrap on both the wall and roof that has good breathability and can also handle the New Zealand weather and job site conditions."

"I am a strong believer in building science. Building underlays that are air and water tight but vapour permeable make a lot of sense with today's modern homes," said Steve. "We don't know exactly how people will live in their home, however we do know the high breathability of DuPont Tyvek will allow any vapour within the building to escape to the outside."

DuPont has a compatible system of wall and roof underlays that are complemented with underlay seam and window flashing tapes. On the St Heliers project the following DuPont products were used:

  • Roof: DuPont Tyvek Supro
  • Wall: DuPont Tyvek HomeWrap and DuPont Tyvek Contractor Tape
  • Window and Door Openings: DuPont Flashing Tape

DuPont Tyvek Supro roof underlay is a self-supporting, fire retardant, synthetic roof underlay that is compatible with most residential and commercial roofs down to a 3º pitch. Roof claddings such as metal (including long run), concrete tile, asphalt shingle and slate tile (pictured) are a great fit for DuPont Tyvek Supro.

DuPont Tyvek HomeWrap wall underlay is the most installed building wrap in the world. It is compatible with most wall claddings in cavity and direct fix applications. Like Supro on the roof, DuPont Tyvek HomeWrap can be exposed to UV for up to 120 days. This gives the contractor extra time if there are construction delays due to weather, labour shortage or problems with sourcing cladding materials.

DuPont Tyvek Contractor Tape is an acrylic seam tape engineered by DuPont to seal overlaps in the DuPont Tyvek building underlay. This helps maximise resistance to air and water infiltration. The tape also provides an easy way to repair any tears in the underlay that may occur during the construction process.

DuPont Tyvek Flashing Tape is a 100% butyl peel and stick adhesive tape specifically designed to stick to DuPont Tyvek when flashing windows and doors. DuPont Tyvek Flashing Tape is compatible with most other building materials, including treated timber, metal, vinyl and concrete. It can stick down to -5ºC and is also UV resistant for up to 120 days.

DuPont is a company most people know and trust. When it comes to building underlays, DuPont is a world leader.

All products that make up the DuPont Tyvek Weatherization System are CodeMark certified, and are manufactured and supported in New Zealand by DuPont, a 212 year old company.
