As a complete envelope specification for a multi-unit social housing project, Paula Wallace, National Specification Manager, suggests Thermethene Orange DPM joined with White General Purpose Tape, Supercourse 500 DPC, Watergate Plus 2740mm, Thermaflash Window Flashing Tape, Thermastrap, OneSeal penetration seals and Covertek roof underlay — either as a standard length roll or cut to length (Covertek 407, 405, 403 or 401 depending on requirements). If a rigid air barrier system is required, Premium Joining Tape, Thermaflash and OneSeal are approved and BRANZ appraised as part of the James Hardie RAB System.

The Thermakraft flexible wall membrane system is a multi-product integrated system design to assist with the passive control of air and moisture in buildings constructed in compliance with NZS3604:2011 and the requirements of all relevant compliance documents.

The Thermakraft One Wrap System is used behind wall cladding systems and around framed joinery openings as a secondary weather resistant barrier for walls.

System has been appraised for use a s flexible wall underlay system:

On timber and steel framed buildings
Over rigid wall underlays on timber and steel framed buildings

In the opinion of BRANZ, The Thermakraft One Wrap System, if designed, used, installed, and maintained in accordance with the statements and conditions of the Appraisal, will meet, or contribute to meeting the following provisions of the NZBC:

B2 Durability: Performance B2.3.1 (a), not less than 50 years, B2.3.1 (b), 15 years and B2.3.2. the Thermakraft One Wrap System meets these requirements.
E2 External Moisture: Performance E2.3.2. When used as part of the cladding system, Thermakraft One Wrap System will contribute to meeting this requirement.
F2 Hazardous Building Materials: Performance F2.3.1. The Thermakraft One Warp System meets this requirement and will not present a health hazard to people.

Thermakraft Thermathene Orange 300μm

Thermakraft Thermathene Orange 300μm is a super high strength concrete underlay, tear resistant polythene film used as a damp proof membrane.

Thermathene Orange is intended for use as a dampproof membrane separating the concrete slab from ground soil. The product acts as a vapour barrier to stop ground moisture penetrating the concrete.

Thermathene Orange Concrete Underlay has been appraised for use as a DPM under concrete slab on-ground floors complying with NZS 3604 or NZS 4229.

Thermathene Orange Concrete Underlay has also been appraised for use as a DPM on buildings subject to specific design within the following scope:

Where the DPM is laid on a granular base prepared to not damage the DPM; and,
Where the DPM is adequately protected against damage in service

Thermathene Orange is an Acceptable Solution as per the requirements of the NZBC. Thermathene Orange meets the requirements of NZBC 3604:2011 Clause 7.5.4.2, NZBC Acceptable Solutions E2/AS1, Table 23 and NZS 4229:2013 Clause 7.4 & 7.6.

When Thermathene Orange is used and installed as a damp-proof membrane as per Thermakraft’s literature, the product will meet or contribute to meeting the following provisions of the NZBC: Clause B2 Durability: Performance B2.3.1 (a), 50 years, Clause E2 External Moisture: Performance E2.3.3 & Clause F2 Hazardous Materials: Performance F2.3.1.

Thermakraft CoverTek 401 — Roof & Wall Underlay

Covertek 401 is an affordable lightweight roof and wall underlay designed to keep water out and allow moisture to escape.

Roof Application:

Suitable with masonry tile, metal tile and profiled metal roof cladding.
Suitable for timber or steel framed buildings.
Self-supporting in roof pitch application greater than or equal a 10 degrees (Refer to installation guide)
Will provide temporary weather protection during construction (maximum 7 days), same day coverage recommended.
Covertek 401 may be installed during adverse conditions (rain/snow) without affecting durability or performance.
Suitable for use under dark coloured roofs.

Wall Application:

Can be used with timber and steel framing, either direct or in conjunction with an 18mm minimum drained cavity.
Suitable with absorbent (e.g. timber, brick or fibre cement) or non-absorbent wall claddings (e.g. metal or plastic).
Suitable with masonry veneer in accordance with NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1 or NASH Building Envelope Solutions.
Is suitable for use in Wind Zones of NZS 3604 up to and including ‘Very High’ when used as a standalone flexible underlay, and ‘Extra High’ when used as a flexible underlay over a rigid wall underlay.
Is suitable as an air barrier in unlined wall spaces.
Will provide some temporary weather protection during construction (maximum 60 days for wall application).

Thermaflash high adhesion synthetic window flashing tape is a high performance self-adhering synthetic tape.

Thermaflash window flashing tape can be used as a flexible flashing system around window and door joinery openings on timber and steel framed buildings within the following scope:

Installed into and around joinery openings over the wall underlay and exposed frame to cover both the face and edge of the opening as a secondary weather resistant barrier
Installed at joinery heads to seal flashing upstands to the wall underlay
To assist the overall weathertightness performance of window and door joinery installations
To be used in conjunction with air seals and joinery flashing systems. Installer must check for air seal product compatibility with Thermaflash
Situated in NZS3604 Wind Zones up to, and including, ‘Extra High’
Suitable for residential builds (E2/AS1 timber framed and E2/AS4 steel framed) and medium rise buildings (E2/VM2)

Thermaflash window flashing tape has been appraised by BRANZ as a flexible system for use around window and door joinery for buildings with the following scope:

Constructed with timber and steel framing in accordance with scope limitations of NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1 and NASH Building Envelope Solutions, Paragraph 1.1
With a risk score of 0-20, calculated in accordance with NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1 or NASH Building Envelope Solutions, Table 2
With wall cladding systems complying with NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1 or NASH Building Envelope Solutions, or a valid BRANZ Appraisal that specifies a flexible flashing system
With flexible wall underlays compatible with the flashing tape and complying with the NZBC

Extra High Wind Zone

OneSeal Multi-fit Pipe and Cable Penetration Seals are a range of pipe and service penetration seals consisting of a soft, flexible EPDM membrane with a self-adhesvive flange.

OneSeal Multi-fit Pipe and Cable Penetration Seals have been appraised for use as pipe and service penetration seals for use where the penetration penetrates the wall underlay on timber and steel framed buildings within the following scope:

the scope limitations of NZBC Acceptable Solutions E2/AS1, Paragraph 1.1 with regards to building height and floor plan area; and,
with stand-alone flexible wall underlays covered by a valid BRANZ Appraisal; or,
with flexible wall underlays covered by a valid BRANZ Appraisal for use over rigid wall underlays; or,
with proprietary plywood or fibre cement based rigid wall underlays cover by a valid BRANZ Appraisal; and,
situated in NZS 3604 Wind Zones up to, and including Very High where stand-alone flexible wall underlays are used; or,
situated in NZS 3604 Wind Zones up to, and including Extra High where flexible wall underlays are used over rigid wall underlays, or proprietary rigid wall underlays are used.

OneSeal Multi-fit Piep and Cable Penetration Seals have also been appraised for use on buildings subject to specific weathertightness design. Building designers are responsible for the building design and for the incorporation of Multi-Fit Penetration Seals into their design in accordance with the declared properties and the instructions of Thermakraft Ltd
