Proven Seismic Performance a Key Element of GRC Façades

GRC commands a strong presence in seismically active areas such as the West Coast of the USA, Turkey, Japan and Taiwan purely on a cost/performance basis.

Seismic design highlights a number of key considerations:

  • Engineering for multiple seismic events
  • Higher ULS levels
  • Greater inter-storey drift requirements

A GRC façade is typically only 15% of the weight of standard 125mm precast, reducing seismic mass and deflections.

Inter-storey drift values of + / - 80mm are accommodated and installed with standard flexible structural connections.  Fixings have a 200 – 300% inherent safety margin, whereas precast fixings typically have only 20 – 30%.

GRC virtually eliminates the risk of progressive failure.  A GRC façade achieves a high-quality monolithic cladding, without weight or construction cost penalties.
