EcoSpring: Hot Water That Doesn’t Cost the Earth

Heat pump hot water systems have become a standard recommendation for energy-conscious residential projects as the evidence is there to back it, but not all of them are equally straightforward to specify, install or live with. EcoSpring is designed to close the gap between efficiency on paper and performance in practice.

How it actually works

Rather than generating heat directly, the way a standard electric cylinder does, EcoSpring draws ambient heat from the surrounding air and transfers it to the water. Heat pump physics means you get roughly three to four units of heating for every unit of electricity consumed. That's not just a marginal improvement on a conventional cylinder, It's a fundamentally different operating model. Where some heat pump systems trade efficiency for complexity, larger footprints, noisier operation or controls that require ongoing management, EcoSpring keeps things simple without giving up performance and our control system amplifies that.

New Zealand's temperate climate is well suited to heat pump hot water year-round, unlike some systems that see significant efficiency drops in cooler months, EcoSpring is sized and calibrated towards our local conditions rather than designed for a global market and adapted as an afterthought.

Practical to specify and install

One of the common friction points with heat pump hot water is installation; units that are bulky, loud enough to need relocating away from living areas, or that require significant trades coordination to fit into an existing services layout. EcoSpring is compact, quiet and designed to sit comfortably within standard utility spaces. For renovation projects it offers a direct replacement pathway for existing electric cylinders. For new builds, the footprint and configuration options make integration straightforward from the start.

The efficiency case at the specification stage

Hot water system selection has real bearing on a building's operational energy profile and increasingly on how that profile is documented and disclosed. Specifying EcoSpring gives architects and designers a hot water solution that contributes to energy efficiency outcomes without requiring occupants to change behaviour or manage a complicated system.
