Family Home Features Innovative Roof Tiles with Classic Style

This stunning 320m² family home in Rangitane River Park, Kerikeri, was designed by Alan Simpkin of Arcline Architecture Ltd in close collaboration with homeowners Jonathon and Janine Telfer of award-winning Telfer Roofing. Alan took care to specify quality materials that would create a beautiful timeless look while bringing innovation and durability to the fore.

“The clients wanted a classic, timeless home that wouldn’t date with time,” says Architectural Designer, Alan Simpkin. In addition, the home needed to meet the covenant of the new Rangitane River Park subdivision. To achieve this, the home was designed with eye-catching gable forms and clad with a combination of cedar and large-format brick. For the 35° pitched roof, Gerard CF Shake roof tiles were chosen to complement the aesthetic while providing practical advantages.

“We needed a roof that was sympathetic to the coastal area, and being in the Far North District Council zone, required low reflectivity and natural colours,” explains Alan. “The clients wanted a roof with a generous pitch and this was a great opportunity for Jono and Janine who own Telfer Roofing [Gerard's distributor north of Whangarei] to show off Gerard's CF Shake profile.”

Gerard CF Shake is a stone-coated steel panel with an innovative concealed fastening system that protects all fastening elements to ensure a more reliable, watertight and durable roof. Suitable for all NZ wind zones, CF Shake roof tiles are backed by a 50-year warranty for added peace of mind.

“The Gerard CF Shake was the best choice and with its slate appearance it really complements the architecture of the home”, says Alan. “The CF concealed fixings are great, we consider [these] to be important in this sea spray zone — less holes in the roof and none of the fixing holes are exposed to the weather or are visible.”

The expansive roof is a standout feature of the home, with the Gerard CF Shake textured profile in Charcoal blend adding visual detail with its subtle colour variations, while complementing the cladding and landscaping.

The end result is a timeless family home with modern performance thanks to smart materials designed to last the test of time.
