An Attractive Retaining Wall Makeover with GRC Cladding Panels

Renowned as a producer of indoor feature panels, GRC NZ can now also help designers transform unsightly exterior retaining walls.

Many outdoor areas in New Zealand have unattractive, old retaining walls, leading designers to wonder how they can update or hide these without incurring substantial cost. When removing and replacing the walls simply isn't an option, re-clad them with GRC Cladding Panels.

GRC stands for Glass-fibre Reinforced Concrete. Simply put, it's a mixture of cement and fibreglass that is 70mpa tough, yet at only 12mm thick, it is lightweight and easy to transport. Each of the panels in the project above weighed no more than 40kg, making installation very easy and quick. Further to that, GRC panels are an extremely durable and low maintenance option.
In the above project, GRC panels have been direct fixed onto the new timber posts using visible stainless fixings. However, GRC can also hide the fixings, if that is the preferred look.

Also in this example, the GRC panels have been made using a rough sawn timber mould, but smooth surface finishes are easily achieved as well.

The result speaks for itself.
