Design Unique Outdoor Features with Corian Solid Surface

Corian Solid Surface is durable, seamless, non-porous, renewable, easily cleaned, and thermoformable, making it the perfect low maintenance product to use for alfresco spaces, in both residential and commercial environments. Installations can easily be cleaned and/or sanded to restore them to their original appearance. Even graffiti can be removed through standard pressure washing with baking soda-based cleaning agents. Although Corian Solid Surface is very durable, it is also repairable, so should the worst happen cracks can generally be repaired on site.

All colours of Corian Solid Surface used in outdoor living applications exhibit good colour stability, have low moisture absorption, and are resistant to stains, environmental pollutants, detergents, humidity and freeze-thaw conditions. Although each of the various Corian colours change differently with prolonged exposure to weather conditions and may show colour shifts, these can be renewed with cleaning and/or sanding, this change is more evident in the darker colours and less so in the whites, lights and many of the neutrals. Ultimately it is up to the end user on what characteristics are acceptable for the desired application.

A great example of using Corian Solid Surface in an outdoor and unique application can be seen at the Rissho University in Japan, where Corian Glacier White was used for the outdoor seating and tables, creating a large unique feature within the space. Also New Zealand designer Fletcher Vaughan created “Stratospheric,” a stunning sculpture out of Corian Glacier Ice which was backlit with LEDs.

Corian Solid Surface is also perfect for use in outdoor kitchens, although it is important to note that considerations need to be taken around design and in turn ensuring there is steel framing and appropriate air gaps around barbecue units for example which can reach extremely high temperatures.
