Heat Pump Underfloor Heating System — Detached House
Description

A hydronic heat pump and underfloor heating system is a sustainable and energy efficient option for home heating, and is an ideal solution to heat detached single-level domestic dwellings.

  • Underfloor systems heat the entire room evenly and at a lower temperature, reducing energy consumption
  • Suitable for low or net zero carbon homes
  • Healthy — no forced air-flow, central heating is ideal for people with respiratory or allergy problems
  • BRANZ appraised — the Multitubo Piping System
  • Silent and comfortable — invisible whole home heating
  • Flexible design options — can add cooling, hot water cylinder heating, and radiators

The hydronic heat pump system

  • BRANZ appraised underfloor Multitubo Piping System
  • Highly efficient Japanese Chofu heat pump
  • SmartOne controller

Optional extras:

  • Cooling
  • Hot water cylinder heating
  • Other hydronic options such as radiators and towel rails
  • Can be integrated with solar power systems
Key Features

Chofu Heat Pump:

  • 5 year warranty
  • Efficient R32 refrigerant
  • Very quiet operation
  • Temperatures as low as -20°C
  • 6, 10 and 16kW models available
  • App control option, can switch on/adjust remotely

Underfloor Multitubo Piping System:

  • 25 year warranty
  • BRANZ Appraised
  • Product life of more than 50 years
Scope of Use

Central Heating NZ offer free engineered design to create a system suitable to provide even, radiant heating to the whole home:

  • Residential  — single storey stand alone dwellings
  • Underfloor piping embedded in new concrete slab-onground or suspended concrete floors
  • Suitable for all climate zones — minimum outdoor air temperature: -20°
  • Ideal for open plan designs or designs featuring a lot of glazing
  • Can be integrated with solar power systems
Limitations on Use
  • Requires increased floor insulation values compared to an un-heated floor, refer to H1/AS1
  • Suitable for single storey, concrete slab — alternative options available for timber floors or multi-storey
  • Floor coverings should be selected so that they offer the minimum resistance to the upward flow of heat
  • Not recommended for users requiring instantaneous heat (initial startup time ~8 hours to bring room to temperature
  • Limited cooling performance (design required)
Statement of Building Code Compliance
  • B2 Durability — BRANZ Appraised. Multitubo pipes have a life expectancy in excess of 50 years
  • H1 energy efficiency — systems are designed to be efficient in their operation and the insulation required for heated elements as listed in AS1 must be achieved
  • G12 — The underfloor Multitubo Piping System has been appraised for use as the piping components for water supply as per the scope of New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) Acceptable Solution G12/AS1, and verification method G12/VM1 and as pipe for proprietary heating systems subject to specific design.
In-Service History

Central Heating New Zealand has been installing hydronic heating systems for 20 years, and has been involved in over 15,000 residential and commercial projects throughout NZ over the last 20 years.

Chofu heat pumps have been in use in NZ since 2014.

Other Performance Attributes
  • Chofu are the first of its kind to use R32 refrigerant in New Zealand, which has than half the GWP (global warming potential) of R410A
  • R32 efficiently conveys heat it requires less refrigerant volume per kW. This equates to a 10% reduction in energy consumption
  • The R32 Chofu boasts heating efficiencies over a COP of 4.5 and delivers water temperatures up to 60°C at high efficiency
  • Chofu heat pumps' patented anti-frost technology ensures high performance is maintained in temperatures as low as -20°C
