Fireplace with Flexible Flue Ensures a Sleek, Built-in Look for an Architectural Home

Partway through this project by Homeroom Studio, a compliance issue with the existing fireplace became an unexpected turning point — its replacement, an Escea DS Series Gas Fireplace, went on to become one of the room's defining features, integrated seamlessly into custom stone and joinery.

The Escea DS1150, chosen for its flexible flue system, made it possible to integrate the fireplace within the design intent, while zero clearance was critical given the adjacent joinery. The frameless, linear form delivered a sleek, built-in look without compromising the surrounding cabinetry or finishes. Escea's CAD and BIM files allowed the studio to integrate the unit with precision, while its Architectural Advisory team was on hand to ensure compliance and performance alongside the custom stonework and cabinetry.

Treated as a sculptural anchor rather than simply a heat source, the gas fireplace sits flush within leathered stone and timber cabinetry, delivering warmth and atmosphere without compromising the design. The result is a home that feels like a true extension of its owners — grounded, warm, and rich with meaning.
