Set against the limestone bluffs of Golden Bay, the Port Tarakohe Management and Amenities Building has a strong presence despite its compact footprint. Designed for a working harbour, its robust materials and bronze-toned detailing suit the coastal setting, while cultural elements across the facade give the building a clear connection to place. That same design approach extends to the surrounding boundary. JTB Architects designed the two-storey harbourmaster and amenities facility in collaboration with Tasman District Council, Manawhenua Ki Mohua, artist Robin Slow and the local community. At 140m², the building is relatively small, but it’s distinctive architecture called for a fencing solution that complemented the wider design.
Boundaryline supplied SentryPanel Rod Top fencing, custom powder coated to match the bronze tone used across the building’s exterior fin detailing. The matching finish carries the building’s material palette through to the boundary, while providing the security required around the site. The profile uses 25 x 25mm vertical bars with 65 x 65mm posts. The anti-climb spacing between the horizontal rails makes the fence difficult to scale, while the capped rod-top profile provides an additional deterrent and a refined appearance suited to a public-facing facility.
Manufactured from aluminium, SentryPanel Rod Top provides a durable solution that reduces the risk of rust and warping. The range can be adapted to different site conditions, with custom gates and panels available and rakeable panels able to follow slopes of up to 30°. This gives project teams flexibility around changing ground levels and specific access requirements.
The Port Tarakohe Management and Amenities Building has received recognition through the Resene Total Colour Awards and the NZIA Nelson/Marlborough Architecture Awards. SentryPanel Rod Top supports the finished design by meeting the practical demands of the harbour environment while extending its distinctive bronze palette to the site boundary.
