Dream, design, deliver with 3M VHB Tape 4991. It is a grey 2.3 mm, multi-purpose acrylic adhesive with a conformable, foam core. It can replace rivets, welds and screws.
The fast and easy to use permanent bonding method provides high strength and long-term durability. It offers design flexibility with its viscoelasticity and powerful ability to bond to a variety of surfaces.
Fast and easy-to-use permanent bonding method provides high strength and long-term durability
3M VHB Tape consists of a durable acrylic adhesive with viscoelastic properties. This provides an extraordinarily strong double sided foam tape:
Adheres to a broad range of substrates, including aluminium, stainless steel, galvanised steel, composites, plastics, acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS and painted or sealed wood and concrete
It can replace rivets, welds and screws.
VHB bonding tapes provide excellent shear strength, conformability, surface adhesion and temperature resistance. They are commonly used in applications across a variety of markets including:
Transportation, appliance, electronics, construction, sign and display and general industrial
Reliably bonds a variety of materials with strength and speed for permanent applications.
Limitations on Use
Although laboratory tests have shown no degradation after 10 years submersion in salt water, VHB Tapes are not recommended for applications involving continuous submersion
When stored in the original cartons in cool dry conditions (ideal 20°C, 50% relative humidity) the shelf life is 24 months from date of manufacture
The elastic properties are maintained between -40°C and 90°C
Other Performance Attributes
Prevents corrosion by separating dissimilar metals
Resists solvents and salt water. Seals and bonds even in extreme environments
The performance of VHB Tapes is not significantly affected by exposure to sunlight and harsh environments
Outdoor weathering decks in Florida (hot and moist, high UV), and Arizona (hot with high UV) and other locations around the world are used to collect data on the long term performance of these tapes. These harsh tests typically show 100% bond strength retention after 2-5 years
