Smart Value Engineering for H1: MAXRaft Brings Insulated Slab Options to Projects of All Budgets

With new H1 requirements and a growing drive towards better energy-efficiency, even on projects with modest budgets, MAXRaft is pleased to introduce their latest innovations — MAXRaft Base and MAXSlab Base. These new products allow for higher thermal performance on projects where the budget doesn’t allow for a fully insulated slab.

MAXSlab Base

MAXSlab Base is MAXRaft’s entry-level option for good ground conditions. The fully engineered system delivers an insulated slab foundation that meets and exceeds building code requirements, but without the slab edge insulation of premium MAXSlab, resulting in a more accessible pricepoint.

MAXRaft Base

Providing an entry-level alternative to standard MAXRaft and MAXRaft Plus, MAXRaft Base is designed for use on soft ground, TC2 and expansive soils. The fully engineered system provides the base performance of an insulated slab, without the slab edge insulation.

These products make insulated slabs possible for a broader range of projects, offering much better thermal performance than a standard raft floor, at a similar cost.

Targeting H1 for projects of all budgets

Together with their existing products, the new Base products give designers a broader range of options for meeting and exceeding H1 energy efficiency requirements — whether for a high-performance home with a large budget, or a modest residential project where the clients are looking to make more sustainable choices.

MAXRaft has undertaken comprehensive thermal modelling on each of their systems to make it easy to calculate thermal performance — with R values ready to be input into design calculator software as part of the whole building H1 calculation.

Why MAXRaft?

Beyond their excellent thermal performance, MAXRaft’s insulated slab systems are a sustainable and efficient choice. All products are supplied cut to size to minimise waste on site, and ensure fast and easy installation and clean-up. And waste from the manufacturing process, as well as any off-cuts from site, are recycled into new products at the factory.

MAXRaft brings over twenty years of experience in providing smart insulated flooring solutions to increase the thermal performance of kiwi buildings. Their in-house engineering team can assist with engineering design on projects with an in-house or contracted engineer, and can even provide full engineering designs where needed.

Let MAXRaft help you find the right H1 solution for your project

The MAXRaft team is available to give advice on the best slab option for your project’s site and budget. They can provide different options from their range — outlining the costs and R values of each for your specific project — allowing your team to incorporate the numbers into calculations to determine the best fit for the whole project. This approach makes it easier to determine the best balance of cost and performance across all elements of the building envelope, and lends itself to smarter value engineering for H1 calculations.
