Smartwood Bi-Fold Windows

Description

Smartwood bi-folds have the same frame as the bi-folding door but with a narrower stiles and bottom rails. The rolling gear sits outside the sash and allows easy cleaning at the sill.

Configurations are generally supplied in even panel numbers. Overlights are possible.

  • The Smartwood bi-fold window system is bottom rolling for optimum panel support
  • It uses the bi-fold door frame and track but the panels have smaller rails and stiles
  • A minimum panel width of 650mm applies
  • Smartwood bi-fold windows are generally supplied in multiples of two i.e. 2-panel, 4-panel, 6-panel (free-swinging third panels are not recommended in bi-fold window applications)
  • A PVC thermal insulator between the aluminium and timber cladding prevents condensation transfer and enhances thermal performance

Scope of Use
  • Suitable for most residential environments
  • Need to be used in defined maximum sizes according to the wind exposure 

 

Limitations on Use
  • Careful consideration of bi-fold use is required when projecting on to decks or pedestrian areas
  • Consider the ease of reaching the bi-fold handle if the window is placed beyond a bench
  • A good option for maximum views and ventilation but need to be monitored if windy conditions occur
  • Free-swinging single panels not recommended
  • A minimum panel width of 650mm applies

  • Designed, tested and manufactured to meet NZS 4211: Performance of Windows, and NZS 4233:  Glazing in Buildings, Parts 1-4
  • Designed and tested to conform to NZ Building Code, including Clause E2

Other Performance Attributes
  • Window and door warranty provided under normal conditions of use against failure of materials and workmanship for a period of five years
  • Smartwood products need sealing after installation with an appropriate finish e.g. oiled, varnished, stained or painted; regular care and restoration recommended
  • Aluminium surface finish is covered by a separate performance warranty dependent on the actual finish selected
  • A hardware/componentry warranty is offered against defects in manufacturing, functionality and surface finish for a period of five years, provided care and maintenance guidelines have been followed
