NBK Terracotta is a ventilated curtain wall/rain screen system with exposed components made exclusively from terracotta.
The system moves water away from building envelopes, using a ventilated and pressure-equalised system. Natural chimney effects not only keep the building dry to reduce maintenance, but also help save energy. The NBK Terracotta support system — a patented development within the NBK product range — comprises a few individual components using 6063-T5 alloy, ensures excellent integration of the system.
Qualified NBK engineers design the Support System on a project-by-project basis to accommodate site specific Design, Seismic and Wind-load requirements.
Durability — lifespan of 50 years
Marine grade alloy rail system, rust and corrosion resistant — Perfect for NZ's harsh conditions
Low maintenance — annual washdown completes the maintenance program
Rainscreen system repels 95% of water ingress providing extra protection against the elements
The low percentage of water absorption ensures that dirt does not penetrate the tile and make it look dirty
Inert material colour that will not fade with time
B2 Durability: Verification of Conformity Certificate No. 1N-XM-CP-5612 in accordance with EN 14411:2012 Ceramic tiles – Definitions, classification, characteristics and marking. Test Report No. XMCCM140900848 in accordance with EN 1441:2012. Test Report No. 2008-12-3662-03 - Proof of practical experience of the bearing capacity of tiles in accordance with DIN 18516-1 Impact Test Report No. 12871 in accordance with BS 8200:1985. UV Exposure – natural product, does not require testing. Standard 15yr Warranty with working life in excess of 50 years.
C Fire Safety: ceramic material, non-combustible so doesn't require testing
E2 External Moisture: Weathertightness Design – when used as a rain screen as part of a drained vented cavity system with an air barrier. Tested to AAMA509-09 – achieved lowest classification for water entry, W1. Achieved good air flow classification, V6. (Note both water and ventilation scales range from 1-11). Tested successfully from -4.3KPa to +4.7KPa.
NBK Terracotta has been used throughout the world since 1927. In 2007 it was purchased by Hunter Douglas — reknowned for their innovation and quality architectural products.
