A-lign Concealed Fix Weatherboard
Description

A-lign Concealed Fix cladding system locks weatherboards tightly in place without the use of nails, so the surface of the weatherboard is unbroken. Suitable for coastal environments, this results in high moisture protection, no filling and puttying of nail holes, lower painting costs and superior face finish. 

The solution consists of horizontal concealed fix A-lign timber weatherboards, A-lign profiled timber cavity battens, flashings and accessories, and is finished with tow coats of 100% premium acrylic house paint.

Made from sustainable finger-jointed NZ radiata pine.

Scope of Use

The A-lign Bevelback Weatherboard Concealed Fix Cavity Solution has been appraised as an external horizontally fixed wall cladding solution for buildings within the following scope:

  • the scope limitations of NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1, Paragraph 1.1; and,
  • construction with timber framing complying with NZBC; and,
  • with a risk score of 0-20, calculated in accordance with the NZBC; and,
  • situated in NZS 3604 Building Wind Zones up to, and including 'Extra High'.

The A-lign Bevelback Weatherboard Concealed Fix Cavity Solution has also been appraised as an external horizontally fixed wall cladding solution for specifically designed buildings within the following scope:

  • the scope of limitations of NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1, Paragraph 1.1; and,
  • constructed with timber framing complying with NZBC; and,
  • situated in specific design wind pressures up to a maximum design differential ultimate limit state (ULS) of 2.5 kPa.

The Jenkin A-Lign Beveback Weatherboard Concealed Fix Cavity Solution is appraised for use with aluminium window and door joinery that is installed with vertical jambs and horizontal heads and sills. (The Appraisal of the Jenkin A-Lign Bevelback Weatherboard Concealed Fix Cavity Fix Solution relies on the joinery meeting the requirements of NZS 4211 for the relevant Building Wind Zone or wind pressure.)

Statement of Building Code Compliance

In the opinion of BRANZ, the A-lign Weatherboard Concealed Fix Cavity Solution, if designed, and used, installed and maintained in accordance with with the statements and conditions of Appraisal No.751 (2011), will meet the following provisions of the NZBC:

  • Clause B1 STRUCTURE: Performance B1.3.1, B1.3.2 and B1.3.4. The A-lign Weatherboard Concealed Fix Cavity Solution meets the requirement for loads arising from self-weight, wind, impact and creep [i.e. B1.3.3 (a), (h), (j) and (q)].
  • Clause B2 DURABILITY: Performance B2.3.1(b), 15 years, B2.3.1(c), 5 years and B2.3.1. A-lign Weatherboard Concealed Fix Cavity Solution meets these requirements.
  • Clause E2 EXTERNAL MOISTURE: Performance E2.3.2 The A-lign Weatherboard Concealed Fix Cavity Solution meets this requirement.
  • Clause F2 HAZARDOUS BUILDING MATERIALS: Performance F2.3.2. The A-lign Weatherboard Concealed Fix Cavity Solution meets this requirement and will not present a hazard to people.

The A-lign Weatherboard Concealed Fix Cavity Solution has been appraised as an Alternative Solution in terms of New Zealand Building Code compliance.

In-Service History

A-lign was established in New Zealand in 2007. It has been installed on thousands of projects including detached houses, townhouses, apartments, schools, and aged care facilities.
