Viking Garden FLL Antiroot TorchOn Membrane
Description

Viking Garden FLL Antiroot is a two-layer modified bitumen waterproofing membrane designed to waterproof roof garden systems. The membrane contains a specialised chemical treatment that coerces plants and tree roots away from the membrane to ensure no penetration occurs.

The Garden FLL Antiroot layer is 4mm thick, making the two-layer system 8mm of protection. On top of the membrane, Viking's complete system with drainage board, moisture retention layer and then specialised growth media and appropriate vegetation can be planted to complete the job.

Key Features
  • A rot-proof polyester reinforcing mesh has been designed to avoid shrinkage, withstand static weight and extreme structural movement.
  • Despite the membrane being mostly covered in soil, this product still has excellent UV resistance seeing it still gets exposed on parapets and upstands.
  • 130°C melt point and -15°C cold flexibility means it won't crack in climatic extremes and makes application in cold conditions easier.

Teamed with the Viking Roof Garden system, the Viking Garden FLL Antiroot membrane offers:

  • Storm water management: reduces storm-water run-off rates by up to 500%;
  • Air and water purification: plants convert CO2 into O2, thus reducing greenhouse gases. The soil acts as a filter to assist with purifying water;
  • Sound and temperature insulation: soil and plants can reduce indoor noise pollution and assist in keeping the building warmer in winter and cooler in summer;
  • Reduces urban heat and energy consumption: impermeable urban surfaces such as concrete and bitumen, absorb a significant amount of heat during the day which is radiated back into the air. This increased outdoor temperature results in more energy being required to cool the interior of a building. Viking Roof Gardens help insulate and shade buildings, and the plants transpire, thereby cooling the surrounding air - further reducing the energy consumption of the building (through lower air conditioning use).

Scope of Use

Viking Garden FLL Antiroot is suitable for use on buildings within the following scope:

  • With substrates of suspended reinforced concrete; and,
  • With each structure being subjected to specific structural engineering and weather-tightness design.

Please refer to the Viking Roof Garden System for further information on the system that is installed on top of the Viking Garden FLL Antiroot Membrane.

Limitations on Use

Viking Garden FLL Antirootmust be installed by a Viking Approved Applicator. If the membrane is to be used in conjunction with the Viking Roofspec Roof Garden System, then it must be installed in compliance with architectural drawings, as approved by Viking Roofspec. There must be no deviations made from these specifications or the approved drawings without prior approval from Viking Roofspec.

Statement of Building Code Compliance
  • Clause B1 STRUCTURE: Performance B1.3.1.
  • Clause B2 DURABILITY: Performance B2.3.1(b).
  • Clause E2 EXTERNAL MOISTURE: Performance E2.3.1, E2.3.2.
  • Clause F2 HAZARDOUS BUILDING MATERIALS: Performance F2.3.1.
Other Performance Attributes
  • The Viking Garden FLL Antiroot is backed by a 20-year product warranty;
  • Team with the Viking Roof Garden System if offers space saving: using the roof surface to accommodate an extensive roof garden means you are utilising the building's 'fifth wall' to create outdoor public space instead of displacing further real estate;
  • Longer roof life: the roof membrane is protected from climate extremes and physical abuse which increases the life of the roof and its long term performance.
  • The bitumen used Viking Garden FLL in is a bi-product of the oil refining process, providing a constructive use of this waste product;
