John Sneyd, GM Building System Performance
Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment
John leads the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s Building System Performance branch, the government’s lead adviser on the building regulatory system, including the New Zealand Building Code. John’s team is actively pursuing changes to make the system more efficient and lift the quality of building work and also leading the ‘Building for climate change’ programme, a plan to reduce emissions from buildings during their construction.
Alan Blundell, Design Business Manager
From a background in architecture, Alan designed and built his own boutique hotel in 2008 – “Ohtel” in Oriental Parade, Wellington. He ran that business for 10 years, successfully exiting to pursue other property interests.
Having a reputation for creativity and bringing those ideas to fruition, and a broad understanding of business operations Alan now works as the Design Business Manager for Summerset — one of New Zealand's largest and most respected operators in the retirement village and aged care sector. He is responsible for streamlining business systems and processes, managing from the design side, internal and external stakeholder relationships for an in-house Architectural Design Team of 35; Alan also sits on various fora including Innovation, Sustainability and Village Operations.
Guy Marriage, Director, Architect (NZRAB, ARBUK) & Teacher
Guy is a founding Director of First Light Studio and a registered architect in both the UK and NZ. Having completed his Bachelor of Architecture in Auckland during the 1980s, he spent the entire 1990s working in London on a variety of project types. On returning to New Zealand in 2000 he continued to practice as an architect but also started lecturing on architecture and construction at Victoria University in Wellington. Guy has published extensively on sustainability and innovation and is author of Tall Buildings.
Michael Fooks, Indicator
Michael is an experienced trainer and coach who works to facilitate change in organisations of all sizes. After a 10-year career in the IT industry in sales and leadership roles, Michael switched his focus to developing others full-time. Since 2004 he has been working with some of New Zealand’s largest organisations to empower their people with new skills, attitudes and capabilities.
Michael uses these skills and his experience to quickly navigate to the core of client issues and teach his clients new ways of thinking which offer more powerful choices.
Matthew Duder, EBOSS
Matthew is Managing Director and owner of EBOSS; with 20 years industry experience, Matthew is passionate about understanding how technology and innovation can be used to improve the building process and deliver better buildings.
