Located in a converted office building at 396 Queen Street, the new Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Auckland spans 21 levels, offering 255 guest rooms and 300m² of conference and meeting space.
For the hotel lobby, Studio Design + Architecture selected Barrisol Mirror Panels to create an eye-catching ceiling feature that would reflect natural light back into the space.
To create the bespoke ceiling, Stretch Master Ceilings manufactured alloy frames for the panels, using CNC machinery to recreate the curved join between the carpet and tiles in the lobby. Barrisol Mirror panels in the smoky ‘Etain Moire’ finish were then stretched across the frames to provide a high-end reflective feature.
The Stretch Master Ceilings team were able to install the panels 8m above the floor while other services were being completed below. This proved an advantage which helped propel the construction program forward.
The light weight of the panels — which are available up to 1.4m wide by 50m long, enabled the designers to create a suspended mirror ceiling look that wouldn’t usually be possible. “There’s no other product on the market where you can do such big mirrored panels,” says Chris Ramsey, Director of Stretch Master Ceilings.
In addition to their striking aesthetic and high level of customisation, Barrisol Mirror Panels also meet a Group 1-S fire rating, making them suitable for a wide range of commercial applications from hotels, bars and restaurants, to shops, showrooms and receptions. Available in six different tones, the panels can be supplied perforated, backlit or in a high-performance acoustic option.
In the case of the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland, the versatility of Barrisol helped designers to create a unique ceiling feature that adds a touch of glamour while complementing other dark features in the space. “The ceiling looks stunning,” says Chris, “I think everyone is pretty impressed with it.”
