Climate uses a variety of PPG coatings, including a specially formulated ultra low bake powder coating for their ClimateLine range of pre-finished plasterboard.
PPG manufacture and supply high performance powder coatings for functional and decorative applications. Each coating in their expansive powder coating range has been purpose-designed to meet the challenges of its application — whether that be seaspray resistance for exterior surfaces in coastal areas, or low maintenance, abrasion-resistant coatings for high-use interior linings.
Climate, specialists in providing powder coating solutions for plasterboard, MDF and Plywood, have been using PPG’s powder coating technologies for over 10 years. “Most of the products we’re coating are used in a very specific way, so we use a range of specially formulated PPG coatings that are tailored to our coating processes and end use applications,” explains Kyle True, Sales and Marketing Manager at Climate. “In general, we’re looking for functionality from the powder including exterior durability, inter-coat adhesion, scratch and mar resistance as well as decorative features such as colour and texture.”
A few popular PPG powder coating options Climate uses are:
- A water-resistant barrier coating for plywood sheathing (rigid air barriers)
- Primer undercoat for plywood cladding
- Decorative and moisture resistant coating for plasterboard wall and ceiling linings
- Decorative custom colours and finishes applied to MDF sheets that are used for creating retail fixtures
A key part of Climate’s business is the manufacture and supply of ClimateLine pre-finished plasterboard. “In a world first, we apply powder coatings onto plasterboard and that’s sold as a pre-finished interior wall lining and ceiling lining or commercial ceiling tile,” explains Kyle. “These powder coatings are very different to metal powder coating. It has taken years to develop and we continuously fine tune the technology by working closely together with PPG.”
This specially formulated plasterboard powder coating is unique to PPG and Climate. “It’s a very effective technology — in terms of providing protection for the substrate, in terms of durability, and in terms of moisture and UV resistance,” says Kyle. “It does a really good job.”
Kyle also enjoys the peace of mind of using a sustainable option. “It’s a VOC-free coating technology and it has a low waste application process as well — from that perspective it ticks all the green boxes versus solvent or waterbased paints.”
Climate’s relationship with PPG has continued to grow over the years. “It’s great to work with a global company that manufactures locally,” says Kyle. “They’ve been really reliable suppliers and responsive and we’ve benefited from a long term relationship that has enabled both our businesses to grow.”
