PPG Offers Green Alternative for Interior Timber Finishing

PPG’s 500S and 500 Amerthane 2K waterbased system is a BRANZ tested waterbased polyurethane that provides an attractive, natural finish on timber. The waterbased formula of the system ensures a cleaner, greener finish compared to conventional 2K urethanes.

The system is ideal for finishing timber in a range of interior applications in both residential and commercial projects — from tabletops, cabinetry and interior furniture, right through to offices, partitioning walls and shop fittings. The system has excellent non-yellowing properties, low reflectivity and unlike solvent based Amerthanes, it doesn’t leave a plastic-like film on the surface. This results in a modern, nude finish on timber that is silky to the touch.

With a global move away from solvent-based finishing systems, 500S and 500 Amerthane 2K waterbased system offers an attractive alternative. “There’s not much difference between solvent and waterbased finishes these days,” says Adrian Armstrong, Technical Sales Training Representative, PPG. “So much technology is being put into waterbased systems, The hardeners are on par. They are advancing quickly and becoming even more user-friendly.”

The project above shows how the 500S and 500 Amerthane 2K system provides a clear, natural finish on timber furniture and cabinetry — allowing the natural grain of the timber to take centre stage.
