PDC introduces the latest evolutionary design in floor box safety, with the addition of the Protector Series Stainless floor boxes to the range.
This range of especially safety conscious floor boxes was developed as a solution to the electrical safety concerns that began to surround the stainless floor box product a couple of years ago. Several warnings were issued in Australia and New Zealand, cautioning contractors about the risk posed by electrical floor boxes. This alert was issued by the Electrical Trades Union of Victoria, Australia, in May 2014:
"When electrical cables are allowed to exit from the side of a current floor box, and lid is then closed, it acts as a guillotine. Exposed wires from sheared or cut cables may come into contact with parts of the metallic floor box, which has the potential to make the entire box 'live' and pose a major electrocution hazard."
The Protector Series Stainless boxes have several features that combat this risk. These features include the highly regarded, non-conductive CableShield Lid and Frame assembly designed to prevent cables being cut or damaged when the lid is closing, a cable retainer to keep cables tidy, a soft closing lid function and a generous bend radius for Cat 6A and 7A data cabling.
Not only do these features prevent the wires from being damaged, but they also prevent injury to hands and fingers while they are plugging devices into the box sockets. Similar to the way a soft close drawer in a kitchen prevents fingers getting crushed, the soft close lid cannot fall heavily onto the end user's fingers, if the lid should fall while their hands are inside.
Additional features of the Protector boxes include a lid made from solid 304 building grade stainless steel and a sturdy powder coated steel box body, which is available in a range of sizes and depths. These boxes also have a robust, large capacity cable exit flap with retractable lifting handle, and a modular box body and lid design, interchangeable with polyamide lids and other lids in the PDC floor box range. The Protector series includes a range of different lid finishes, to suit any floor style.
