The Latimer Apartments in Christchurch is a luxury high-rise apartment building that offers studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and penthouse apartments across eight storeys. The iconic apartment tower was recently refurbished, with eight new one-bedroom terraced apartments added to the complex.
When refurbishing the apartments, architects Weir Architecture needed a low maintenance cladding that was lightweight, non-combustible and would complement the precast concrete of the original building. They turned to Mulford Plastics, who created a custom sparkling white colour for their non-combustible Alibuild A2 Plus cladding in order to nail the brief.
Alibuild A2 Plus is an ACM cladding with a mineral fire-resistant core. The cladding has been BRANZ-tested for fire performance and meets requirements for dwellings greater than ten metres in height. On top of compliant fire performance and excellent durability, AliBuild A2 Plus also provides a sleek, modern and seamless finish that is increasingly popular for new builds.
“The Alibuild A2 Plus kept within the look of the building, it met all fire criteria and it was also an affordable wall cladding with low maintenance,” says Stratco, fabricators for the project. “The architects specified nice big panels which utilised the sheets. This made it affordable and also kept the look nice and clean. It was in keeping with the precast look.”
The finished cladding provides a crisp white finish that complements the existing building while providing the fire performance, low maintenance and durability required. And the clients, Weir Architecture, are clearly pleased with the result – they are already working with Stratco and Alibuild again on other projects.
