Karndean Looselay Flooring for Multi-Residential Build

In New Zealand, the BCNZ requires an acoustic performance rating of 55 decibels (dB) or higher for a floor in a Class 2 or 3 building, such as multi-residential living. In essence, the higher the decibel rating, the stronger the acoustic performance of the flooring system.

Adhering to the ASTM E492-09 Normalised Impact Sound Insulation, Karndean LooseLay is currently one of the only luxury vinyl planks and tiles on the market that has an acoustic performance rating of 56dB – without the need for an additional acoustic underlay – proving itself to be the ideal flooring system for multi-residential living.

It's well known that impact sound (i.e. footsteps, vacuum cleaners) is best treated at the source of the problem, most commonly with an acoustic flooring solution. Karndean LooseLay reduces the sound bounce and transfer, meaning it's much quieter to walk on, and therefore a practical and preferable choice for multi-level applications.

"Architects, interior designers and contractors are seeing the benefits of specifying Karndean LooseLay in place of traditional carpet tiles and laminate flooring in multi-residential projects," comments Dan Lovell, Managing Director of Karndean Designflooring.

"With excellent environmental credentials, Karndean LooseLay's friction grip backing means it requires minimal adhesive in most installations and is 100 per cent recyclable," said Lovell. "This is important as the demand for sustainable design practice continues to grow in multi-residential build projects."

The collection's large scale (41.3 x 9.85mm) planks and (19.7 x 24mm) tiles combined with the fact that it's quick and easy to fit, means reduced downtime and reduced installation costs – perfect for projects with quick turnaround times.

The collection features 19 wood and eight stone designs, and as with all Karndean Designflooring products, each tile is carefully designed for authenticity – conveying all the great characteristics of natural materials. Colours are defined with variable shades and tones, just as they are in real wood or stone, but without the practical drawbacks.
