The hospital fit-out included 19 various Besam-branded operators, including the isolation rooms that require a sealed sterile environment at all times. Besam products achieved this by the unique offering of a Venetian blind within a double-glazed glass unit which eliminated exposure to germs. This allows the staff to monitor critical patients by opening the blind with the room remaining sealed, and also provides privacy when required.
Also included in the product mix were the ADS Frame and ADS Slim aluminium systems, which are Besam products used globally. The ADS Frame system was used for manual sliders, automatic doors and automatic telescopics. The ADS slim was used in a six-panel telescopic unit to utilise the maximum opening width. The exclusive interlocking sections of these two systems can also comply with smoke-stop regulations to create a fully sealed smoke-stop solution.
Klein Architects was meticulous in specifying the correct product mix to allow the hospital to achieve optimum functionality and performance of the Besam door solutions.
In addition, the unique small profile of the Besam automatic Unislide operator was integrated perfectly into Wight Aluminium’s suite, which resulted in some stunning entranceways.
The collaboration between Hutt Valley District Health Board, Klein Architects, Fletcher Construction, Wight Aluminium and Assa Abloy Entrance Systems has exceeded all expectations in creating a world-class facility.
