"Truly scrumptious. Inspired by confectionery and brutalism, the 2024 Kitchen of the Year, designed by Annika Rowson, is a recipe for domestic and viral success." — Frederico Monsalve, HOME Magazine, OCT/NOV 24.
The kitchen island is the hero of this design, and was inspired by three squished pink marshmallows, one on top of the other. Annika blew out the proportions, accenting the bullnoses and the chocolate éclair ice-cream like swirls of the Corian Smoke Drift Prima.
Fabrication of this island was a challenge that Lamiform (Authorised Corian Fabricators) relished. Alongside the pillow-like layers, there was the recessed drainer, integrated sink (also in Corian Smoke Drift Prima), nearly invisible joints, negative detailing and power points directly into the surface. Many moulds and prototypes were created by the designer and fabricators (Alex & Sam) before the final version was approved.
This kitchen island highlights the Corian Solid Surface's characteristics of formability and seamless joins, delivering a stunning island top that combines durability and practicality with incredibly innovative design.
