Greenwash in the Paint Industry

Here is the quote from Adrian Sparrow, director of fair trading:

"The growing trend to greenwashing by businesses is cause for concern if the green, eco-friendly or sustainability claims are false or misleading. In fact, the Commission has identified this as a new focus area, due to the proliferation overseas of such claims in marketing hype."

In the paint industry the main players are participating in the Environmental Choice product licensing scheme. Environmental Choice is an independent, government endorsed programme that only accredits the products with the lowest environmental impact on the market. Dulux work hard to ensure our products meet their tough specifications which also cover the manufacturing process, packaging, end of life processes, and our energy and waste procedures. The specification is regularly updated to ensure the latest best practice is being demanded of the participants. Environmental Choice is respected internationally and is accepted by the NZ Green Building Council.

So in a sea of green washing this is a logo you can trust. Look for it.
