Trespa Meteon Slats Feature on The Strand in Tauranga

Trespa Meteon was specified on The Strand project in Tauranga by Noel Jessop from Noel Jessop Architecture.  The Trespa was cut into slats and utilised the Uni Colours and Wood Grain finishes together to create a stunning effect.  Double-sided 10mm Uni Colour Turf Green and Wood Grains Milano Terra and English Cherry were specified.

Noel said the Trespa Meteon was specified for the longevity of the aesthetic finish which could endure the harsh elements, given the location of the project next to a large body of water. "We were looking for a product that would achieve a reduced maintenance requirement and maintain a constant aesthetic appeal without the requirement of continuous coatings.  With the use of Trespa we were able to achieve a variety of aesthetic finishes and colours and know that these aesthetics wouldn’t be affected by the elements.  With the use of a screen design, the desired result was an economic solution, while providing an interesting aesthetic to the park side of the development, rather than creating a solid mass."

The good life-cycle values and the fact Trespa can be re-used if required were also important factors in Noel's decision.

The slats were fixed with colour-matched rivets to a metal frame structure with horizontal steel at 900mm centres.  This was achieved due to the panel's core strength and Trespa’s spanning ability which meant they could fix at the maximum span achievable for 10mm Trespa Slats.

Trespa can be used with the patented, tested Profix fixing systems to achieve a weathertight, ventilated façade but this innovative design shows how it can also be used without Profix to create a stunning screen effect bringing design and function together.

The Strand project has been chosen by Trespa International to appear on their website; the first New Zealand project to do so.
