Cedar Shakes are longer and thicker than the more popular Cedar Shingle, which allows the exposed section to measure up to 210mm, instead of the 140mm max for the shingles. Tim has used a “peel and stick” bituminous waterproofing membrane on plywood and also papered all of roof to add an additional layer of protection and for peace of mind.

This ensures that the roof will remain waterproof even in extreme conditions. The shakes are all fixed using stainless steel Annular grooved nails or stainless steel divergent point staples.

Both the owner and the architect are very happy with the result and Tim is looking forward to doing the house next year.
