SEPTEMBER 2009 - your monthly publication for interior & exterior ideas

Welcome to September's issue of ebossNOW

As always, ebossNOW features the latest in interior, exterior and environmental developments, as well as a special feature, which for September is Bathroom Design.

This month's Bathroom Design feature profiles systems and products that satisfy the growing interest in renovation and refurbishment. It demonstrates that even though there may be fewer projects, we are not short of quality solutions for all budgets. In the feature we launch the new Waka range of tapware from Foreno, and give you the chance to win NZ's first Waka Sink Mixer valued at $1295.

We are also running our third Building Industry Confidence Survey for the year. This is your opportunity to have your say on the current market conditions. This month we want your views on the future of building under the proposed super city format, and your thoughts on the potential introduction of a capital gains tax. We will collate your views and publish them through the media. All participants will go into the draw to win a case of award winning Passage Rock Syrah. This stunning wine is from one of Waiheke Islands finest vineyards, and is valued at $480. Click here to get started.

This month we welcome Aquatite to eboss, as well as continue the FAP video series from The Tile Warehouse, and invite you to the launch of ArchiCAD 13. Amongst all the latest news in this issue we also launch the new range of windows and doors from APL, Smarter Products for Sustainable Building, the lifecycle assessment study from James Hardie and the new Innovations Range from The Laminex Group.
We also profile the new Allora Lifestyle Series Shower from Athena, SKOPE Heating's new heated towel rail, Eurotech's bathroom lighting range, Dimond's new energy saving R Plus roofing system, Peter Fell's product registration service and Häfele's new storage range - Smart Spaces.

The winner of the $100 PlaceMakers voucher in the Dimond September draw is Chris Boss of Jasmax in Auckland. Congratulations to Chris. Remember there is one more voucher to give away, and another Acer laptop valued at $799.

As always we welcome any feedback, and if you think ebossNOW would be of interest to a colleague or friend, please let them know. Enjoy the issue.

Kind regards

Smeg Linea design to the fore in kitchens
The Smeg Linea range features low-profile sheets of frosted graphite glass absolutely flush with the kitchen bench, with cast iron trivets on feet of bright red silicone. The control knobs are translucent polycarbonate and sit conveniently at the centre front of the appliance.
Both the PVA750 and PX140 models feature Smeg's exclusive 'vertical flame technology' which conserves energy by directing the flame vertically, unlike conventional burners where the flame is angled away from the pot creating heat wastage. Each is compatible with natural gas and LPG
Fireproof with Firepro F120 Insulation Fire Barrier
Halogen lamps can run very hot and generally cannot be covered with insulation due to the risk of overheating causing fire.
The Firepro F120 Insulation Fire Barrier has been developed to prevent the loss of heat and the risk of overheating, allowing ceiling insulation to be run continuously over the F120 Insulation Fire Barrier without requiring holes cut around downlights.
Firepro F120 Data sheet is available here
Keep the noise down with Pink® Batts® Silencer®
The strategic use of acoustic insulation is an essential part of modern living and Pink® Batts® Silencer® is the ideal way to reduce sound transfer between rooms. By installing non-combustible Pink Batts Silencer in interior wall cavities and Pink Batts Silencer Midfloor between floors/ceilings in multi-storey dwellings, the amount of unwanted noise can be reduced significantly. An STC of 47 can be achieved with Pink Batts Silencer as part of the GIB Quiet Zone® specification. This allows greater design flexibility so now singing in the shower shouldn't wake the house.

New Project Registration Tool for long-term maintenance management
Maintenance can now be futureproofed with the new product registration service from Peter Fell. It's hard to match a colour when you don't know what the original is, so to ensure all future problems are managed effectively, Peter Fell now offers a service to record all details of a project, referenced to the street address so it can be found very easily.
Form and function with APL doors and windows
APL is rolling out its new range of doors and windows. These include a Thermal Heart Roof Window that minimises condensation; a Metro Slider Opening Window that can be incorporated into sliding doors with a specially developed fastener; an Architectural Series 3-Panel Bypass that offers open tracks at sill and head with no threshold; and a Glazed Plasma Door that gives a clean, architectural look and is one of the lightest doors on the market.
Less Effort with More Energy with Dimond R Plus
In response to demand, Dimond have developed the R Plus Roof System that provides a low-cost solution to energy conservation. The design of building envelopes demands accurate specification of how the required levels of insulation, air movement, and use of natural light will be achieved. Thermal insulation with R-values exceeding code requirements is becoming commonplace. Dimond R plus is the answer to these issues.
Structurally sound with Metalcraft
Metalcraft Structural supplied a unique Purlin size to the recently completed Jakaar Industries Building on Cryers Road in East Tamaki. MSS 325/15 Purlins were specified in place of MSS 300/18s. The result was a Purlin solution that met the span requirements but enabled savings to be achieved. Learn more about the Jakaar Industries project and the benefits of the innovative MSS Purlin sizes.
Metalcraft Insulated Panel Systems put hygiene first
Tokyo Foods required a freezer that would meet the needs of their ever-expanding customer base. Metalcraft Insulated Panel Systems supplied the ThermoPanel EPS used in the construction of the freezer. ThermoPanel EPS is manufactured using Colorsteel CP as the external metal skin, which has antibacterial properties specifically required for this type of application. Learn more about the Tokyo Foods project
Synergy between Flashman and Nu-Wall
Flashman flashing systems and Nu-Wall products are both produced from versatile green aluminium so they work well together. The Branz Appraised Flashman Window and Door Flashing System is a breakthrough in flashing aluminium joinery and ensures weathertightness at the vulnerable window-to-cladding junctions, even in extreme conditions. Tested in hurricane winds of 232 km/h.
Flashman and Nu-Wall cladding fit well because there is no need to synchronise installation of the windows and cladding. Only Flashman installers install the Flashman System, and they issue a 10-year installation and 15-year product warranty; as well as a producer statement for the consenting authority.

Foreno's new Maori-inspired designs
The WAKA range from Foreno is a Maori-inspired range of tapware for the international market developed to showcase New Zealand's heritage. Maori-inspired motifs have been etched along the spout to represent our native heritage and personify the range. The water flow from the Waka spouts are representational of a Waka, or Maori canoe, floating on a river as the water flows out the spout like a stream or waterfall. The range is the first in Foreno's quest to go global and showcase NZ to the rest of the world. Waka will be available from late October 2009.
To celebrate the launch of the Waka Range, Foreno and eboss are giving away NZ's first Waka sink mixer valued at $1295. Click here to register for an information pack and go in the draw to win.

Whether you are looking for a bathroom mirror light, an IP-rated downlight to go above a shower, or even a feature light such as an IP-rated LED shelf light to spruce up your bathroom design, Eurotech Lighting has a fitting to suit.
Eurotech Lighting also has a full range of IP-rated exterior lighting products, equally practical for interior wet areas such as bathrooms.
Mitsubishi Electric Jet Towel - the High Speed Hand Dryer
The Jet Towel by Mitsubishi Electric directs a blast of air onto both sides of wet hands. The high-speed motor produces an airflow rate of 90 metres per second, drying hands hygienically in 5 to 6 seconds. This differs from traditional dryers that use electric elements to try and evaporate moisture from hands and the electricity consumption is significantly lower.
The Jet Towel can store heat that is released into the airflow for increased comfort or switch to the higher economy summer option that uses ambient air temperature.

GIB Aqualine® for protection against steam and moisture damage
Bathrooms are continually subject to steam, moisture build up or water spills and splashes. GIB Aqualine® has a water-resistant wax polymer core to help stop moisture being absorbed by the lining and from passing through into the underlying framing where it can cause serious damage. Fibreglass reinforcing helps make GIB Aqualine® a solid and reliable tile substrate too.
Wetwall Caddy from Aquatite
The Aquatite Wetwall Caddy is a two-piece ABS and Polycarb device that encompasses shower mixers and taps and creates a seal in a wet wall lining. It diverts any moisture that has ingressed past the linings, or entered the wall cavity from hardware failure, back out and down the face of the wall lining, alerting the homeowner to the fact that they have a leak, while preventing water damage. The Wetwall Caddy also allows for easy access back into the shower mixer for servicing, which is a requirement from all tapware manufacturers for warranty purposes. All of the Aquatite products are Branz appraised and have a 50-year warranty. They also meet and exceed the requirements of E2 and E3 of the NZBC and AS 3740 waterproofing of wet areas in residential buildings.
