This month, we continue our focus on Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD. Not only do we give you a concise overview of the fantastic AutoCAD 2009 presentation, we are proud to exclusively publish a selection of Revit window components from Altherm, First and Vantage aluminium. We congratulate APL's commitment to provide intelligent details, and create quality local Revit content.
With so much to cover in May, Roger Morrison's "Revit journey" will be published next month - a must see for all Revit converts and others alike. Episodes 5 and 6 of the John Wardle Lecture series are streaming now.

As well as seeing in the winter, May brings with it the release of the long awaited Vantage Specifier's Guide and James Hardie's new Fire and Acoustic Manual. Both of these can be ordered online through eboss, we make sure you always have the most current technical details for your specifications.

Parex - Harnessing the Renewable Resource of Air to Heat Water The new Stiebel Eltron Air to Water Heat Pump converts the ambient temperature of the air into thermal energy and uses it to heat water. Because the system harnesses the renewable resource of the air temperature, it uses only one third of the energy that a conventional water heating cylinder uses, so the cost to the environment and to your client is considerably less. Used and perfected in Europe, this technology is ideally suited to the New Zealand climate, and the system is easily installed into new and existing homes and buildings. Glass-shelf Bracket from Halliday and Baillie The new HB322 glass-shelf brackets were designed for applications such as bathroom and living-room display shelves. APL Revit Details Available Detail components in the increasingly popular Autodesk Revit format are now available for windows and doors in the APL Architectural Series. Downloadable as RFA files, the detail components can be accessed through the specifier manuals for Altherm, First or Vantage windows and doors hosted on eboss. Revit software allows users to control the component appearance to suit the detailed situation. Detail components have in-built functionality with parameters to control glass lengths, single or double glazed options and other product accessory choices. APL to release new specifier's guide A new Vantage Specifier's Guide is being released in late May. With over 600 pages this technical manual for designers has the latest information on all window systems, including Vantage residential, Architectural Series, Metro Series, Metro Thermal Heart, Smartwood and a wide range of commercial systems. Affinity Cladding System™ by Dimond The Affinity Cladding System™ by Dimond is the only BRANZ appraised profiled metal cladding system in New Zealand and makes the installation of profiled metal cladding fast and simple. This system significantly reduces the amount of on-site cutting and measuring and does not require any application of sealant to ensure a weather tight fit. The system is comprised of a choice of metal cladding profiles run horizontally, and a complete set of flashing components for window, meter box and door openings, internal and external corners, joints to other cladding materials, soffit and base finishing, abutting walls and balustrades. Dulux wins Green Gold Dulux New Zealand won Green Gold at the 10th Wellington Region Gold Awards for business excellence last week. The award recognises Dulux's successful introduction of environmentally sustainable practices at its paint manufacturing plant at Gracefield in the Hutt Valley. Dulux has introduced initiatives ranging from downsizing fleet cars to investing $1million on a waste water treatment plant to collect all stormwater and water used in manufacture on their four-hectare site. Dulux is also focused on making its products more sustainable. Click here to read more. Winstone Wallboards are Doing Things Differently Winstone Wallboards has embraced sustainability and is working hard to significantly reduce its impact on the environment. By integrating environmental awareness into all of its business activities, including undertaking a vigorous life cycle analysis of its plasterboard manufacturing processes. Click here to read more. Cool Drying Green Paint from Resene The Resene technical team developed the first wintergrade product, Resene Wintergrade Lumbersider, in 1999. It has since been joined by Resene Wintergrade Hi-Glo and Resene Wintergrade Quick Dry. This year, Resene Wintergrade Sonyx 101 and Resene Wintergrade X-200 have been added to the product range. The method used to produce these paints is to build the sub-micron plastic particles in two separate phases - a soft phase that will coalesce at very low temperatures, and a hard, tough phase that will contribute good film properties. Because coalescing solvents are not necessary, the technology used is very green with low VOC. These waterborne paints will dry in temperatures down to 2'C because they can be formulated without humectants. Click here to read more. Recycled Light by Ecoglo There are many ways to become more environmentally friendly and one of these is to endeavour, whenever possible, to use new technology products that are more sustainable. Christchurch company Ecoglo produces photoluminescent products that provide a sustainable alternative to electricity in the provision of safe egress and lighting. Click here to read more. Fletcher Systems' Green Seat The new Myst ECO Chairs from Fletcher Systems designed by Fletcher Vaughan are eco friendly with a sophisticated and contemporary aesthetic. The seat is constructed from certified FSC Plantation plywood and low emission glues, these components comply with the Australian GECA standards. Recycled Rebond foam is used which can be recycled again once the chair has served out its life, and a large range of certified ECO fabrics are available to cover the chairs.
