Corian Benchtop with Seamless Integration of Features

The Wrights are a busy family of five so they needed a durable surface that could withstand the wear and tear of family life – but one that also looked great.

Using a minimal palette of black and white throughout the house, Justin and Louise wanted to carry this clean look through to the kitchen by keeping the elements to a minimum.

"You often see as many as three components used around a bench, with grout lines and joins connecting them. Achieving a smooth finish with no joins or grout transitions was a key requirement for us," Louise explains.

Corian is fully formable and can be seamlessly fabricated to create customised curves and designs with inconspicuous joins – a feature the Wrights took full advantage of. Their bench in Corian's Glacier White, incorporates a seamlessly integrated Corian sink and coved up-stand, which provided the satin finish that complemented their home's minimal aesthetic.

Louise worked closely with her local Corian fabricator, Shane Ramage from Central Benchmakers, to ensure the design of the benchtop featured the various attributes that Corian is well known for and to integrate with the home's architecture. The 6.5 metre-long bench was fabricated and transported to site in two parts then installed with one join "which is barely visible from the top".

An ideal choice for a busy household, Corian's non-porous impermeable surface means it is resistant to stains from spills and food and provides a hygienic non toxic surface, so there's no need to worry about food and cooking stains. It is also fully repairable and requires only a sand and buff by an authorised Corian fabricator to renew the finish. Any damage (although very unlikely to occur) can generally be repaired on site leaving very little evidence. As well as these superior technical benefits, Corian also feels good – surprisingly warm and soft to touch.

Corian is a sound choice for residential benches and commercial surfaces, suitable for architects, designers and their most discerning customers.
