In 2014 car company MINI Garage opened a new showroom in Newmarket, Auckland. The largest of MINI Garage's showrooms in the southern hemisphere, the design was the first of its kind in New Zealand, incorporating a unique and futuristic aesthetic with technology-led features.

The upgrade included an installation of Dyson V, a compact hand dryer from the Airblade range.

The Challenge

The showroom was previously offering paper towels for hand drying which regularly caused plumbing blockages when visitors were flushing paper towels in the toilet, and not disposing the towels in the rubbish bins provided.

MINI Garage wished to reduce paper waste and improve presentation by eliminating paper debris, leaving a tidier bathroom and creating a better first impression on showroom visitors.

The car company was also looking for products which mirrored their own ‘MINI – minimalism’ design philosophy featuring clean and striking lines.

The Solution

MINI Garage installed Dyson Airblade V Hand Dryers in three bathrooms used by employees and visitors to the showroom and its onsite café

Limited space in two of the bathrooms meant the Dyson Airblade V Hand Dryer's compact design was ideal for the installation.

"We love the clean, simple and compact lines of the Dyson Airblade V and felt they would complement our bathrooms better than anything else we saw," says Project Manager Adrian Bosch. "The polished stainless steel is a great finish and complements the bathroom hardware nicely."

"Their energy efficiency and lower carbon foot print also make it a no brainer against other models," Bosch adds.

The Results

MINI Garage showroom manager, Jonathan Highton, said installing the Dyson Airblade V Hand Dryers provided the best all-round solution.

"There has been an instant reduction in waste. Like our new showroom, the hand dryers look futuristic, are unique, and above all, are well designed."

"Like our cars, their engines are smaller, they produce a better performance while saving on running costs compared to previous models," Highton adds. "We appreciate Dyson and MINI are two brands with the same British heritage, that both happen to make engineering-led products."

MINI Garage’s sister brand, BMW, is soon opening a new showroom and Jonathan confirmed additional hand dryers from the Dyson Airblade range have also been ordered for the installation.

"We are now undertaking a major upgrade of the BMW showroom and are excited about installing the Dyson Airblade Tap."
